Cookshop Plus Cooking School - Chef / Instructor

We are always looking for great instructors who have a passion for teaching and creating great food. We have a fully stocked kitchen and offer both “Watch and Learn” and “Hands-On” classes for our customers, who sign up to take a single class on an individual subject. Class menus are designed by our instructors, and classes are managed and marketed by Cookshop Plus.

What are the requirements to teach?
A degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent work experience.
Ability to interact with individuals that have varied experience levels and integrate them into one class.
Basic supervisory skills.
Previous experience instructing adults or juniors in formal or professional settings, or experience working in front of a captive audience.
Available to teach classes on a regular / semi-regular basis
What are an instructor’s responsibilities?
Teach cooking classes for groups between 4 and 10 people.
Provide professional guidance to students as needed.
Participate in planning and strategy sessions (quarterly).
Create the menu / theme for the classes you are teaching.
Prepare a teaching plan for each class.
Shop for and prep food before class.
Manage the cooking class assistants before and after class (where applicable)
Assist with clean down at the end of class.
Help manage pantry / dry store inventory
Have fun! (We’re not turning out hundreds of orders here. We’re just trying to show people how to make great meals at home and enjoy a fun atmosphere of learning)

Cooking Class Assistant Program: Volunteers
Part-Time / Volunteer
Come join the fun in the Cookshop Kitchen as a Volunteer Cooking Class Assistant!
Volunteers play an essential role in all of our classes. All volunteers are required to arrive 30 minutes before the class begins and should expect to stay for approximately 4 hours. Volunteers will assist the instructor with class setup and throughout the class, and with post-class cleanup.
We reward regular volunteers by offering a FREE class after volunteering in 4 previous classes. Plus, discounts in store* & free knife sharpening. You will also enjoy the menu at each volunteer class.
We are looking for people who are:

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Instructor to provide an exceptional customer experience
Supports an exceptional cooking class experience at each class by acting as an extension of the instructor. Reinforces and supports techniques being presented in class.
Consistently follows all safety policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Washes dishes, cleans kitchen and preps kitchen for classes.
Assist chef instructors to complete break-down check list post-class
Additional responsibilities as assigned by Instructor or culinary director.
Commit to schedule and be reliable
Essential Functions:
Ability to grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch in order to demonstrate, retrieve and/or replenish merchandise and/or cooking equipment.
Ability to use hands to seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise in order to chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice and/or demonstrate other techniques.
Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 4 hours at a time.
Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights, day time and weekends as classes dictate.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Ability to ascend/descend ladders in order to retrieve and/or move kitchen equiptment.
Ability to lift and/or move merchandise and/or kitchen equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
Environmental Conditions: working with an open flame and/or other heating units, and exposure to variation in kitchen temperature.
You don't need to be a kitchen master to be a Cookshop Plus Class Assistant. If you love to cook, love to socialize, and want to learn a few kitchen basics we'd love for you to volunteer at one of our classes.

Cookshop Plus Retail Store:
Cookshop Plus – Store Associate
2-3 shifts per week
Position Overview:
Store associates are responsible to serving our customer and assisting in the day-to-day running of the store.

Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Provide exceptional customer service in greeting and assisting customers, responding to inquiries, and resolving any complaints.
Promote and maximise sales.
Keep up to date with product knowledge and current trends in business.
Suggest and create in store displays.
Participate in maintaining an organized and clean store including stock room and bathroom during downtime and when assigned.
Be proficient with point-of-sale system procedures.
Assist with product selection and buying.
Assist with cooking class operations such as checking in participants, assisting the chef as needed throughout the class and post-class cleanup.
Assist in unpacking, pricing and merchandising inventory received.
Assist with online order fulfillment.
Undertake daily stock management tasks.
Job Requirements: (including, but not limited to)
Exceptional customer service skills.
Professional and friendly.
Prior retail experience (preferred).
Prior experience managing a team (preferred).
Confident using computers, software and ability to learn online processes.
Accurate with basic maths and data entry skills.
Familiarity with Retail POS systems.
Ability to work a flexible schedule (including weekends, weekdays, evenings as business dictates).
Ability to assist Class Instructor and/or Class Assistant in our kitchen when required (including assistance with class set-up and post-class cleanup).
Able to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time (up to an 8 hour shift).
Able to climb step-ladders and be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
